Example: Telco Core Back-end System; Development; Cobol to J2EE TIBCO
The leading mobile phone service provider in Belgium and surrounding regions had a core back-end Cobol application written using a transaction control system from Compaq. Several front-end applications use these services, such as AgentOnline, BASP, IVR, VPN, etc. All the communications ran through a static C library, which was not a scalable architecture. A component framework was introduced, based on J2EE and TIBCO messaging middleware. This system now acts as a message dispatching system between front-end and back-end applications and allows the communication to be held in both synchronous and asynchronous modes. The framework solution decouples the interaction between front-end and back-end applications, allowing them to upgrade independently and streamlining processing on both sides. In this project, one of the crucial tasks was to regression test all communication transactions between the numerous applications connecting to the C library.
